angels live among us. divine creatures from a holy realm, cast out by their God for committing a crime or breaking the rules, they have been exiled and condemned to live among the mortal and coexist as one of them. to be human doesn't come without a price, however, which is why they must consume from those who have the potential to exterminate their kind. legends of vampires have risen from the way they hunt, digging sharp teeth into the necks of men and children to consume their blood and life energy, so that they can maintain their guise. when the angels run low on this energy, their being begins to dissipate around them, black strings of ooze clinging to everything it can, trying to drain its life force.

there are various ranks of angels. those that stand at the highest - the Divine - take on a human shape. The Guardians, lower ranks with the job to protect the Divine, are usually seen in the shape of canines. Finally there are Watchers, seers of the future who take on the shape of songbirds, warning the Divine of dangers to come.

there exist various clans and factions of these angels. some consider humans little more than dirt and source of energy; others virtually worship them as the source of their life force; some reject their divinity; some hunt their own kind and some sort of penitence for their own sins. the few humans that know about their existence have come to either form cults to worship and serve them, or organized themselves into angel hunters to wipe this menace from their home.

FROM ABOVE is a character-oriented verse with potential for all sorts of characters. You can organize them into clans, families, groups, or simply make your own loner. humans and angels are welcome, come up with whatever you desire and roll with it.

The weakest of her clan, Lada is an angel that teeters between a high praise for humans and the delusion that she will be allowed back in her divine realm. she longs for home, longs for a place she can no longer reach, and feels a guilt for feasting on the mortals that don her her shape. soft, resentful, pitiful, unstable and pious, she still prays for a Father that will not welcome her in His arms.

a kind heart with a dark twist, Constance's sins are kept secret to herself for no one else to know. she once fell in love with an angel who took her family from her, and has never truly been the same since. now an angel hunter, Connie keeps to herself most of the time, but her unwavering curiosity leads her to interact with people on different levels. she is unapologetic for what she must do to get revenge, but does not necessarily relish in it.

Mary is a mysterious angel, daintily unaware of her condition as a sinner. whether her fall was a result of her oblivious nature or a purposeful act underneath is unclear, but truth is she shows no regret nor repentance for what she has done and lives her life among the mortals to the fullest. she sees them as little more than toys, puppets to serve herself with and enjoy.

cort believes himself to be truly righteous. having fallen long ago, he now believes fully that he committed no sin, and that his placement on the earth must to be to some other design. (the blood on his hands, after all, was necessary.) he dislikes his forced masquerade and spends much of his existence seeking war, believing perhaps if he proves himself useful he can regain his place. he rarely has to search for babes; having been around long enough, there was once a small cult devoted to him that willingly sacrificed their firstborn to him, but it has dwindled and died after most were killed in the second world war. he only speaks what he believes to be the truth, but his truth is twisted in bitter delusion and a growing thirst for violence and revenge.

Most things in Paz's life happened by accident. Her career as a museum curator, her marriage and consequent divorce, and ending up as an angel hunter after she stumbled across a book with archived files regarding some sort of "divine vampires" (which at first she thought it was one of those Twilight books her daughter likes so much). She was found by a veteran hunter and added to the team mostly as a finder and keeper of any book that contained information on the angels for a better understanding.

Before his Fall, he loved God. But his involvement with an angel too close to sin made him turn her back to God and he was banished to the world of mortals. Roaming streets with no path set, Léon is yet to find a human worth caring.

disrespecting their Father, attempting harm against one another, attempting harm against mankind. the seven deadly sins apply to them as well.

morality issues, where are they

morality issues may vary. some angels struggle with what they have to do, some have rejected their origins completely to indulge in their new condition as BLOOD DRINKERS. you can go all out with sins or penitence.

not physically, but their identity as humans allows them to choose. you can say an angel is the human equivalent of genderqueer or genderless in our terms.

do they have powers? what kinda powers?

powers you'd associate with vampires. they are not mortal in the same way humans are. they gain their energy through feeding on human blood. they have keener senses, they're stronger than your average, etc. they can have slight mind control but they can't do things like fly anymore. no godmoding allowed.

imagine Howl from Howl's Moving Castle melting into a puddle of goo. That's sort of what happens when they go too long without feeding, except their goo is a deadly set of black string-y ooze that sets roots and reaches out to absorb any life energy it can. it's some freaky body horror shit. they can be killed by normal instruments, but they don't age or fall ill.
