INSOMNIACS

Welcome to our very own, modern Earth. Supernatural forces are a thing out in the open and their merry children prancing under the daylight and lurking in the night. Mortal and the undead, monsters and humans hold hands and swing fists in unison, society is split by species and status, and corruption flows both in money and blood. Literally. add: VAMPIRES, THE UNDEAD, PEOPLE WITH PRIVILEGED BLOOD (CUPS), HUMANS, CRAFTSMEN (magicians). THE UNDEAD. Fully functional human beings who can work and feel and have the exact same rational thoughts as everyone else - the only difference being that, in a technical sense, they're already dead. It is only possible to become undead through infection; whereabouts of patient zero are unknown. They eat fresh meat and require constant care, seeing as they are incapable of healing themselves. They are allowed to have jobs, but they don't have the same rights. They keep their intelligence and emotions, but aren't allowed to form a family. Even the slightest misdemeanor is punished with beheading, and they are all marked clearly on their neck to warn others of their status. THE CRAFTS. term for what would be the use and manipulation of supernatural forces - the same thing we call magic. spells and special ingredients we've read of in books are to them a matter of the right kind of meditation (sometimes medication) and mental control. it could take years to take the first steps in mastering the crafts, and its use has been mostly forbidden to all except law enforcers and those highly positioned in the chain of power, but there is one quick way to get ahead of the pack: consumption of privileged blood. THE INSOMNIACS. supernaturals and humans alike that spend their precious time figuring out who's in charge of the night. divided by various gangs, most of them blood traders. THE NEVER WERE. one of these gangs, a group comprised by vampires who were turned at a very young age. they pick up and accept only those who were still children when they turned, and have a slightly different agenda in mind. CUPS. humans with privileged blood - a delicacy to the supernatural, a highly addictive drug to humans. there is no specific blood type that makes someone a Cup; their blood just inexplicably tastes better. Cups are no longer allowed to sell their blood legally, so they resort to the underground instead. while being a Cup does have its obvious benefits, many have been murdered and sold to slavery just for an easy meal. - CHARACTERS THE PHYSICIAN. a man whose title is whispered and talents disbelieved in until they're seen in action. apparently one of a kind, he can heal any ailment through the consumption of the patient's blood. this also gives him full control over said individual, but that is a rumor kept closer to heart.
